Sick of hearing about the Snow? Get out and film it instead!

2nd March 2018 by Ellen Jackson Leave a Comment

Yes it’s snowing, and some of you love it and some of you hate it, but I’m just one of those people that wants to be out there in it. The office has been under deep snow this week, so I took the opportunity to get outside. There is nothing I love more than creating videos in the great outdoors, experimenting with new editing techniques and just generally creating videos.

Whether you want to get outside this weekend and get some footage of your family, or you’re planning on making a little video at your next corporate event, we’ve got you covered with top tips for creating video content – completely on your phone.

Here is one I created earlier just using my phone:

Here are my top tips for creating great video content on your phone:

  1. Always always film landscape! TVs, laptops, computers and Youtube all use landscape orientations so why would you be filming portrait unless you want big black bars at the side of your video? I know, Snapchat means you have to film portrait- but if you’re really wanting to make something look professional, then you’re going to need to go with landscape.
  2. This is a hugely important one, that takes videos from amateur to professional – use some form of TRIPOD. You may think you have a steady hand but you really don’t, none of us do. It doesn’t have to be an expensive one, in fact you could even get away with using a selfie stick these days – anything that will keep your phone more steady than your hand.
  3. If you’re using sound then get an external mic. These are relatively cheap these days, around £10-£40 and make a huge difference to the sound coming from your mic.
  4. Editing – you can edit on your phone now and there are many free apps that will help you do this. Imovie, and Premiere Clip are both free apps that will assist you in putting your footage together.

If you or your team would like some training on filming better video content, then why not get in touch! We would love to help.
